OCTOBER NEWSLETTER

As the autumn breeze brings a touch of coolness to our island, we’re excited to share some updates from Hungry Heroes Hawaii. This October, we have exciting news about our Central Maui Kitchen, a special holiday menu, and as always, the incredible impact we’re making together in our community.

Here’s what’s brewing at Hungry Heroes Hawaii this fall:

Our Impact: A Harvest of Hope

Since the fires in August 2023, our commitment to nourishing Maui has only continued to grow stronger:

  • Produce Distributed: We’ve delivered over 221,378 pounds of fresh, locally sourced produce all over Maui.
  • Meals Served: Through our kitchen and partner kitchens, we’ve lovingly prepared and served 560,415 hot meals since August 2023. Mahalo to our dedicated team and partners!

Spotlight on Partnership: Khalsa Aid

We’re thrilled to highlight our ongoing partnership with Khalsa Aid, an international humanitarian organization that has been a pillar of support since the August 2023 fires:

  • Monthly Donation: Khalsa Aid has been generously donating $10,000 worth of produce each month, significantly boosting our ability to provide fresh, nutritious food to our community.
  • First In-Person Meeting: This past week, we had the honor of meeting one of Khalsa Aid’s team members in person for the first time. This meeting reinforced our shared commitment to serving those in need and strengthened our collaborative efforts.
  • Impact: Thanks to Khalsa Aid’s consistent support, we’ve been able to maintain a steady supply of fresh produce, ensuring that our community members have access to healthy food options during this challenging time.

We’re immensely grateful for Khalsa Aid’s dedication to our mission and their unwavering support of Maui’s recovery efforts. Their generosity exemplifies the power of global compassion and local action.

Central Maui Kitchen: Now Open for Volunteers!

We’re thrilled to announce that our Central Maui Kitchen is now open and ready to welcome volunteers! This new space allows us to expand our operations and serve even more of our ‘ohana. Here’s how you can get involved:

Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Ester and Jerry

This month, we’re shining a light on Ester and Jerry, dedicated volunteers who have been with us since the beginning:

“We’ve loved helping people and delivering. The positive feedback we get from the community is amazing & the relationships we’ve built – people recognize us now! We feel good, we get to be a part of the team and at the end of the day we’ve received Aloha and given Aloha, and that’s what it’s all about.”

Ester and Jerry have volunteered multiple times a week since the fires and contributed many hours to our mission. Mahalo nui loa, Ester and Jerry, for your incredible dedication!
