Community is the immunity
Together we can go far & we can support each other during times of difficulty
Want to get involved?
When it comes to making lasting change, we need information, we need to use the tools of our world to get past the blocks. Where can we be most effective in living a more sustainable Maui?
Plans are nothing; planning is everything. As we continue to face new challenges in Maui, we need ways in which to work together. What are the steps we can take now, that will positively effect our future for many generations?
From media, hands on training, to the class room, we are calling on Maui educators and facilitators. Where can we grow in our skills and understandings of the issues we are facing?
If we care more about taking action, then the result, we might have better results! Where can we take immediate action to support a more aligned community?
Working together, we believe that every individual possesses inherent genius. Once we move beyond mere survival, we can truly thrive as a community. Unfortunately, our competitive environment has led us to view each other as adversaries rather than allies. What could we achieve if we collaborated, leveraging our strengths to support mutual win-win scenarios?
Re-evaluation is crucial to ensure we remain effective, relevant, and responsive to community needs. How can we improve program effectiveness, and use resources more efficiently?

During our experiences in the Pandemic & especially with the Maui Fire Response, we had to grow and adapt to the ever-changing environment. Here are some of the key principles we’ve embraced throughout this learning period:
Do No Harm:
As volunteers and organizations, we must be mindful not to “take over” or give unsolicited instructions to other groups, survivors, or fellow volunteers. Avoid playing the hero; instead, focus on understanding the needs and finding the best way to offer support through humility.
Aloha ‘Āina and Akua First Through Pule (Prayer):
We hope embody the Hawaiian principles of Aloha ‘Āina and Mahalo Ke Akua by doing everything with love and respect for the land. Our mission to provide food from the land, made with love and given for free, to guides us. Prayer is a moment to be humble, listen, and connect before taking action.
Alignment & Responsibility:
You’re either in, out, or in the way. Trust your heart and instincts to determine if a task or role is right for you. Take responsibility or step aside for someone better suited. Actions motivated by agendas, ego, or scarcity won’t bear good fruit and will create friction. It’s ok to let go, to observe, to follow the lead of another.
Re-Organize:
Regularly reassess roles and tasks to ensure alignment with our mission. Trust your instincts, take responsibility, and make space for those aligned with the mission. Avoid actions driven by ego, agenda, or scarcity, as they disrupt harmony and effectiveness. If we are to make change, it starts with ourselves. How can we be more aligned with mind, heart and soul?
We utilize open space technology and self-organization principles to create an adaptable and efficient volunteer organization. By leveraging tools like Slack, WhatsApp, Basecamp, and social media, we facilitate seamless communication and coordination among our volunteers. These platforms enable us to quickly disseminate information, share updates, and organize tasks in real-time, ensuring we can respond swiftly to changing needs and conditions. This approach empowers volunteers to take initiative, collaborate effectively, and contribute their unique skills and talents, fostering a dynamic and resilient community of support.
